New page over at The Twerp. For those not in the know, Twerp is almost like a 'paper' equivalent of IQ - i.e. nuggets of weird.

Should be finished with the album by the end of july, so will be sending it off for mastering. Woo! Worked intensively on it for a few weeks now, and I'm pretty happy with it. Being I end up hating most of my stuff, that in itself is something out of the ordinary. I do wonder how it'll be received...

New website coming soon to coincide with the album release and because I'm bored shitless with this one. :) bar

Technology is a dangerous thing. Binary escapism, it has fantastic potential to waste precious time with the trivial-beyond-belief. You may have noticed, if you're one of my more observant visitors, that there is now a Twitter feed a' sitting there. Quite why I am still trying to figure out, but I suspect it has something to do with cogs and clockwork.

Musicness - Ooooohoho, this album... I've got a trumpet player coming in june, a couple of vocalists vocalising, a harmonica player ready to squeek his harp out, a new subwoofer and I've just bought Garritan's stradivari. I tell you man, it couldn't be going off more unless I was hub-spinning bling-merchant, yo, and the chances of that are decidely slim.bar

Due to persistent attempts by shameless individuals to sell my old PS2 stuff,
I've re-released it all online. Been meaning to do so for some time, but finally got round to it on the weekend.
"Werks" was a CDR collection of all the Iq stuff up to 2005 - "Lotek beats for the impatient", "Spidergram" and "Problematika" - all sewn together in a flumptious format. And now it comes to you made of digital wonk.

You're still reading? Well how quaint. Here's a little info about it just for you. Werks was essentially an attempt to draw a line in the sand. After an hiatus enforced by the total collapse of the studio, I had taken stock of things, bought new beeping objects with which to create bendy unjazz, and I foolishly thought I'd reached a musical plateau. "From hereon, it's all within these parameters", I had concluded whilst nonchalantly flicking ash from my cigarillo one afternoon.

Simpleton that I am. It never ever stops unfolding, even if you'd like it to...

So yes, as an album Werks is random, glitched to fuckery and pretty rough round the edges, but, in my humble opinion, worth a listen just to chart the development.
Enjoy! And do so for free... *narrows eyes*bar

Well fuck me backwards with a loaf, the nice chaps who run fantoom wanted to ask questions in an interview format. Holy pissflaps! Why, it's almost as if someone
actually cares.

AND there was package on the doorstep tonight with a long-ago-ordered Man Man t-shirt, so as days go, it really couldn't get much better. I've loved Man Man a huge great deal a big long time and wait like a hyper-toddler for the new long player.bar

11st February 2008
A couple of Iq tunes - 'Our man on the inside', 'C'est de la bombe de la balle' - will feature on cookshop's 2nd soundbites cd. Set for release in just under a months time, it costs but a few pennies and is fat with goodment.

Iq is also amongst the winners of a remix comp for electronica trio Octavcat. They'll be coming up with some videos for the winning mixes, so it'll be interesting to see the music translated visually.

Work on the album 'The future sound of yesterday' continues, with the list of misguided collaborators slowly lengthening. 2 Singles precede the long player which will see the light of day in april 2009. bar

Well, finally it looks like the hard work is beginning to pay off. Been talking to Cookshop, and they've confirmed that the album, and possibly more besides, is going ahead in 2008. From the horse's mouth:
"We're pleased to announce that long-term collaborator Implosion Quintet will be dropping an album on Cookshop featuring an astonishing amalgamation of sounds and influences..."
As well as,
"We dig what you're doing, as do alot of other folks, and think an Iq album is definitely worth investing some time/dollar into!"
Well, how nice, how positively fucking splendid! There's also talk of either some kind of EP or 7", but it's too early yet to say yet. I'm hoping it'll get released sometime around summer/autumn next year.

Additional to that, looks likely a remix, done a few years back now actually, of nice chap Jay Bharadia is going ahead. The final details of such will of course be posted here, but Lumenessence have a notoriously relaxed release schedule, so you're probably looking at 2010... ;) bar

Working working working on the album, got five tracks together now so it’s getting there. Last track was a real struggle to put together, had problems with the drum recordings clipping and the levels seem to take on a life of their own. But hopefully it’ll all be worth it in the end.

A random google search turned up one of the CDRs I sent out a good few years back for sale... If you see any of the early work for sale, get in touch. (Check out the Iq Discogs page for the listings.) These tunes were all released under the same cc license as the rest of my non-Cookshop work, so no-one should be paying for them. If there are any of you who want copies of the ps2 stuff comprising Werks, get in touch and I’ll put together a download.bar

New cellar session tune 'Creature' - hear me break out the slow-time soulful balladeerism. You may also have noticed a brand spanking new portrait of "us" now appearing on the site, and other choice locations. About time one was done, really. A bigger version can be found on the info page, too, should that be in any way important.

Long time since there's been an update, and that's largely due to work in the real world kind of taking over. The cunt. However, patient listeners, there are a couple of good bobbins for your gentle souls. First, check out the cellar sessions page. You'll find downloads of the jam sessions and a source of possible joy. It's to be a regular thing, so you're advised to keep one eye peeled at it.

Secondly I have, under the alias Le Shonk, thanks to a mate at Thread Design who designed the site, sold a tune to shoe website Ospop. They're a wicked little company who make nice feet-vehicles and, more crucially, have their ethics in the right place. I'm proud as papa as it's the first time I've ever got any cash for the music, and I got a pair of the shoes too, so am doubly chuffed like the nut. Plus there's a little media player bottom right in the shape of a dinky cassette! Splendid.

Thirdly, and wis these updates I'm really zpoiling you, another side-project continues with surrealist newspaper The Twerp. Have yourselves a gander.

Good Lord, what the devil's going on with all this crappy bitmap business? Well, it felt about time for a change, and, to be honest, the last site made people expect minimal glitchtronica. Now one knows from the outset that Iq is not a polished affair, dear boy. And I'm just a sucker for crappy bitmaps.

More crucial, perhaps, is that Commodity is being set up as a net label (well, it is at least the intention) so ultimately it and Iq central needed to be split up. Stay tuned for more astounding and captivating news regarding that, o' millions of eager fans.

24th June 2007
Work has begun on the album which will hopefully see the light of day in 2008. Rough plans are to release it for cash, and an EP for free. Kind of a nice balance that way. A couple of tracks have been uploaded to the superb Virb website. Those of you still hanging about the diseased skank that is Myspace would do well to move operations to Virb. That said, there are still some tracks over at myspace for downloadage, because sometimes the odd person gets in touch for something other than fucking spam.

Le Shonk minisite has been updated with a few new tunes

8th April 2007
Net EP for free for ye. "The deep sound of Bobby Peru" is unleashed through minimalist creative project Moov. Tracklisting and artwork is included in the id3 tags, or here. A mirror of the EP features at Last.fm along with other exciting and wonderful gifts.
